The Challenge
The Ford Ranger PX1 is a versatile and robust mid-size pickup truck known for its ruggedness and reliability. The Ranger PX1 is no longer just a humble workhorse but has also become a popular choice among families and outdoor enthusiasts. Despite being very capable of towing the Ranger can sometimes feel underwhelming, especially on the hills. However, for those looking to optimize the towing performance of their Ford Ranger PX1, tow tuning presents an excellent opportunity.
In this post, we are looking at how tuning the Ford Ranger PX1 can enhance its towing capability and transform the driving experience. Do you have a Ford Ranger PX2 or a Ford Ranger PX3? Check out our blog post about PX2 here and PX3 here. We will use this 2012 Ford Ranger we had on the dyno as our example. The customer reached out to us for a solution to increase the vehicle’s towing performance when they loaded up the family for weekend trips. Luckily here at Alt Tune, we have the tools to solve this problem.
The Solution
We decided that a towing tune would solve the problem for the customer. We used Alientech KESS3 to remap the ECU. Towing tunes are specifically designed to optimize low-end torque, providing the Ranger with the extra pulling power required for heavy loads. The gains improved acceleration and better pulling ability with enhanced torque at lower RPMs, making towing more manageable and efficient.
After we performed the towing tune on our 4WD dyno the customer could feel an increase in power and torque. Tuning the Ford Ranger PX1 offers a fantastic opportunity to enhance its towing performance and versatility. The improvements will undoubtedly elevate the PX1’s towing capabilities. Tow tuning can transform your Ford Ranger PX1 into an even more formidable and reliable towing machine, making every towing journey a breeze.
